Congratulations to our 2023 awardees! The awards were presented by President Ali Alexander Phillips at the 2023 Broadband Association of Alabama and Mississippi (BAAM) Summer Symposium in Pensacola, FL. This scholarship was established in Mr. Billy D. Young’s memory to support fellow telecommunications workers that are employees of member companies of BAAM (almsbroadband.org) or the ITPA Mid-South Chapter (midsouthitpa.org) in educating their children. The scholarship is made available through the MidSouth Chapter and is supported by our amazing sponsors: Wade H. Creekmore, Sr. Pioneer Club; Farmers Telecommunications Coop.; TEC; Fulton Telephone Company, Bruce Telephone Company, and Mound Bayou Telephone & Communications. Additionally, our annual golf tournament, pheasant shoot, and silent and live auctions contribute to our scholarship fund.
Consideration for the scholarship included academic information, community involvement, sports, clubs, employment, and other extracurricular activities. Additionally, each student submitted a 1,000-word essay. Each applicant excelled both inside and outside the classroom during their high school career and were much deserved of the award.
